TasNetworks and Aurora Energy have teamed up to create the Power People Project through Tasmanian Men’s Sheds, which aims to increase energy literacy within the community.
A new partnership is offering Tasmanians the tools to confidently manage their energy use.
TasNetworks and Aurora Energy have teamed up to create the Power People Project through Tasmanian Men’s Sheds, which aims to increase energy literacy within the community.
Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan, welcomed the partnership which was unveiled today.
“An important part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is to take action on the things that matter to Tasmanians, like delivering immediate cost-of living relief measures,” Minister Duigan said.
“Anything we can do to help Tasmanians manage their power bills is incredibly important. This program will do that.
“The program empowers individuals with knowledge and skills needed to understand energy usage, manage costs, and make informed decisions.
The initiative works by training Men’s Shed members to become ‘Power People’. This allows them to share valuable information and insights about the energy sector with their local communities, passing on their training and education about the latest and most efficient methods in reducing power usage.
“This will have a great flow on effect as those members pass on their learnings to their family and friends,” Minister Duigan said.
“Congratulations to Aurora Energy, TasNetworks and the Tasmanian Men’s Shed Association to increase energy literacy in the Tasmanian community.”
A pilot program run at six sheds was integral to the design of the project, with plans to roll the program out to the entire network of more than 70 sheds.
Minister Duigan said Tasmania has the lowest regulated electricity prices in the nation, but the Tasmanian Government acknowledges Tasmanians are feeling the pinch through rising living costs.
“That’s why under we have also committed to delivering a one-off $250 dividend to households, and a $300 dividend to small businesses.”
This dividend will assist around 254,000 householders, and 35,000 small businesses.
