Mental Health Week in Tasmania is an opportunity each year to promote awareness, encourage prevention and reduce stigma. Not-for-profit organisations are invited to apply for grants of up to $2,000 to run events and activities during the week that align with these goals.

The Mental Health Council of Tasmania are excited to be facilitating a small grants program again this year, to help organisations and schools run Mental Health Week events. If your organisation or school is thinking of hosting an event this year, why not apply for a small grant to help cover some of the costs?

Mental Health Week is part of a national mental health promotion campaign held in October each year, and incorporates World Mental Health Day, held globally on 10 October. The purpose of this awareness week is to engage communities in activities that promote mental health and wellbeing and also increase understanding and reduce stigma about mental illness, and how it impacts on the lives of people in our community.

In 2024, the theme for Mental Health Week is ‘Appreciate the little things’.

Sharing a smile with a stranger, spending time in the garden, hearing your favourite song on the radio…

What are the things that give you a glimmer of calm and peace on a busy day? The small moments that wouldn’t make the news, but make you feel good?

Having coffee with an old friend, watching a breathtaking sunset, listening to birds singing in the trees…

This Mental Health Week, take a minute to appreciate the little things.
