In response to Recommendation 18.6 of the Commission of Inquiry, the Tasmanian Government is establishing a Commission for Children and Young People.
The draft consultation Commission for Children and Young People Bill 2024 (the draft Bill) has been developed to support this commitment, by establishing a new independent oversight body, with new statutory roles and functions. These expanded roles and functions deliver on the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry into the Tasmanian Government’s Response to Child Sexual Abuse in Institutional Settings (the Commission of Inquiry).
The Tasmanian Government welcomes community involvement in the development of the new Commission for Children and Young People, and is seeking input on the proposals outlined in the draft Bill.
