Ahead of International Women’s Day (8 March), TasCOSS is officially opening expressions of interest for this year’s Changemakers Community Leaders Program.

TasCOSS welcomes the Federal Government’s investment of an additional $500 million to retrofit another 50,000 social housing properties with energy efficient, electric and solar upgrades and calls on the Tasmanian Government to match its investment.

Volunteering Tasmania is happy to still see funding included in the interim Budget to support the implementation of the Volunteering Strategy, and to commence subsidisation of Working with Vulnerable People Checks for volunteers as part of a two year pilot.

Carers Tasmania welcomes confirmation in the 2025/26 interim Tasmanian Budget of funding in 2025/26 to continue our work supporting and advocating on behalf of more than 87,000 Tasmanians who care for a family member or friend with disability, chronic or life-limiting health condition, mental ill health, drug or alcohol dependence, or who is frail aged, or who care for a child because their parents cannot. This funding will assist us to develop a refreshed version of the Tasmanian Carer Action Plan with Government.

The Tasmanian Family and Sexual Violence Alliance says that the interim Budget does not meet the scale of the state’s family and sexual violence crisis — warning that rising demand, growing waitlists and stagnant investment continue to leave women and children unsafe.

The Tasmanian Government has maintained the same level of funding for Neighbourhood Houses in this budget, but this level of funding is not safe or sustainable.

In the midst of a worsening affordability crisis, we have been delivered a Budget which prioritises investing in projects over investing in people. A Budget that prioritises $5.1 billion of investment in infrastructure, ahead of investments that support people into long term employment, provide safe and affordable homes for Tasmanians on low incomes, and reduce energy bills over the long term, is the wrong Budget and the wrong priority.
