Up to $50,000 is available for projects that run for 12 to 18 months, building skills in employees and volunteers. Projects fund an Adult Literacy Trainer to work onsite to provide training they have tailored to the needs of the organisation and learner.

To be eligible, you must be a Tasmanian employer, part of an employer group, or a Registered Training Organisation working with a Tasmanian employer. Volunteer organisations may also apply.

The 2024-25 grant round opens in July 2024. Tranche 1 applications close Friday 27 September 2024, and Tranche 2 applications close Friday 14 February 2025.

What kind of projects are eligible for funding?
For a project to be eligible for funding, it must provide support to workers to improve their reading, writing or maths skills (minimum 50% of the project). It may also include the following elements:

  • digital literacy for workers with low reading, writing or everyday maths skills
  • training for staff about how to work with staff or clients with low reading, writing or everyday maths skills
  • development of resources for use within the project
  • activities to improve workplace communication (including plain English)
  • surveys, consultations, research to determine the literacy needs of workers.

$5,000 grants to develop a project
If you want help to develop your project you can apply for a $5,000 ‘Get Ready’ grant. This funds you to work with an Adult Literacy Trainer to identify business needs and skill gaps. They will help you design a suitable grant project and application.
