Protective Interruption is a free, practical one hour workshop for educators, teachers, teacher aides, administration and reception staff, accounts receivable staff, and others who may receive sensitive disclosures as part of their work, particularly in environments that are not appropriate for these conversations.
What to do when a conversation becomes more than you expected?
Participants will learn how to recognise when a conversation needs to be safely redirected, respectfully interrupt a disclosure, and connect the person with appropriate support.
Drawing on trauma-informed practice, crisis intervention and neurobiology, the workshop introduces a simple Recognise, Interrupt and Connect (RIC) framework.
In this workshop, you will:
- Understand the purpose and benefits of protective interruption.
- Apply the RIC model.
- Build confidence to manage sensitive disclosures while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
- Learn a trauma-informed approach suitable for classroom environments and office spaces.
Duration: 1 hour
Suitable for administration and reception staff, teachers, teacher aides, accounts receivable staff, and others who may encounter sensitive disclosures in their work.
Presenter: Pen Beeston
