Emergency Food Relief

We provide free emergency food relief to all Tasmanians needing help.

We rescue and redistribute surplus and donated food, much of which would otherwise go to waste.

Food is supplied to more than 300 community partners as ready-to-eat meals, school breakfast supplies, made-to-order food hampers and fresh fruit and vegetables.

Our Devonport kitchen uses donated food to produce tasty, nutritious ready-to-eat meals, from roasts and pastas, to curries and casseroles.

The kitchen also produces tasty school breakfast items, from muffins and frittatas, to pancake mix.

Need food?

We do not provide direct emergency food relief to individuals or families. We deliver to community agencies statewide who distribute on our behalf.

Employment Pathways

Providing training, work experience and opportunities to volunteer are integral to our mission to deliver food and hope.

Our Devonport kitchen and Hobart and Devonport warehouses offer school-based and adult traineeships, including for those with disabilities, in areas such as warehousing, cooking, hospitality and administration.

We also provide training opportunities for the long term unemployed and those required to perform community service hours.

Many of those who get work experience with us go on to find employment at Loaves and Fishes or within the food, hospitality or related sectors.

Social Enterprises

We partner with leading brands to produce food for-profit to fund our emergency food relief work.

For example, we produce wasabi paste on behalf of Shima Wasabi, and olive oil on behalf of Forth Valley Olives. We also make a healthy range of food options for school canteens.

These and other commercial partnerships help us become more financially sustainable and provide important training and employment opportunities.
