A new approach to the Tasmanian Youth Forum, shaped by young people!

The Tasmanian Youth Forum (TYF) hosted by the Youth Network of Tasmania (YNOT) is one of the largest annual events for young people aged 12-25 years in our State. TYF brings young people together from across Tasmania to share their views and ideas on topics important to them, with the aim of improving outcomes for young people and communities.

This year, YNOT has decided to take a different approach by running a series of smaller TYF events across Tasmania, rather than one large event.

Why the change?

Young people have told us that TYF should be more inclusive and accessible for those in regional and remote areas. They found immense value in coming together through a statewide event, particularly meeting new people, but also expressed a strong desire to drill down into the local issues that matter most to them.

Just as importantly, while young people have valued the opportunity to help shape and deliver previous statewide events, they’ve asked adults to step back further and create more space for young people to lead.

Young people want to try something different this year, and have reminded us that if it doesn’t work we can always adapt. It’s wise advice, and we’re taking it on board!

In response, we’re working closely with young people to reimagine TYF and explore opportunities to strengthen youth leadership, decision making and capacity building throughout the event.

Our first event will take place in Burnie on 31 October 2025, with dates for the North and South to be announced later in the year. Watch this space!
