Today’s Budget announcement was not what we were hoping for and impacts on both our direct work with communities, and the ability of the peak body to support the foundations of our Neighbourhood Houses.  

While outlining some additional investment in mental health, nearly all of what is detailed in the Budget relates specifically to clinical and acute services.

Tasmanian family and sexual violence services welcome continued investment from the Government in the Family and Sexual Violence Action Plan, and their stated commitment to victim survivors throughout the state.

This year’s Budget papers include the first steps towards a Gender Impact Assessment of the State Budget (sadly under-delivered on in last year’s Budget).

The indexation of funding is less than we were looking for.

The Mental Health Council of Tasmania (MHCT) and the Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drug Council of Tasmania (ATDC) have together welcomed the investment announced in the State Budget for a Lived Experience Training and Development Hub (the Hub).

The Budget does very little to ease cost of living pressures for young Tasmanians and provides little relief for Government-procured community service organisations.

The Budget includes some small pockets of funding specifically allocated to new mental health and wellbeing initiatives, including a welcome recognition of the value of lived experience to the mental health hand alcohol and other drugs sectors through funding for initiatives like a Lived Experience Training and Development Hub.
