Come and join us at the TasCOSS Conference 2025: Shaping our future together to delve into the complex landscape we are currently operating in and explore how we can shape the Tasmanian community services industry and our state’s future, together.
For the first time, the TasCOSS Conference will be held in Launceston over two days from 12-13 August 2025.
The TasCOSS Conference 2025 Preliminary Program is now available and features a diverse range of speakers and workshops on topics ranging from social impact and best practice in lived experience storytelling, to industry sustainability solutions for the future and transforming child and youth safety.
Program highlights include:
- George Megalogenis, one of Australia’s leading political and economic thinkers.
- Dr Lisa Denny, systems thinker, demographer, researcher and educator.
- Katy Cooper, futurist with expertise in designing collaborative, people-centred systems.
- Dr Katherine Trebeck, political economist, writer and advocate for economic system change.
- A panel session on collaborating for impact, featuring Christine Finnegan (Tasmania JackJumpers), Vaughn Bennison (Disability Voices Tasmania), Jacqui Parker (TasWater) and a leader from the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre, plus other panel members to be announced shortly.
- A selection of engaging workshops to choose from, covering leadership in uncertain times, to creating a connected and respectful Tasmania through conversations.

Full Registration includes attendance to all conference sessions on 12 and 13 August 2025, delegate pack, name badge, lunch, morning and afternoon refreshments, and entry to the Networking Function on the evening of 12 August 2025.
Day Registration includes attendance to sessions on the nominated day of attendance, delegate pack, name badge, lunch, morning and afternoon refreshments on the day of attendance. Day registration does not include attendance at the Networking Function. Tickets to attend this need to be purchased separately.
Student/Concession Registration is available only to full-time students or those with a current concession card.
NB: It is the responsibility of the delegate to secure their own accommodation, if required, while staying in Launceston for the conference.

George Megalogenis is one of Australia’s leading political and economic thinkers. He is an author and journalist with more than three decades’ experience in the media. His book, The Australian Moment, won the 2013 Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Non-Fiction and the 2012 Walkley Award for Non-Fiction, and formed the basis for his ABC documentary series, Making Australia Great.
His recent Quarterly Essay No 96: Minority Report — The New Shape of Australian Politics was published in November 2024. Among the newspapers he has written for are The Australian, The New York Times, The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald.
Dr Lisa Denny is a systems thinker, demographer, researcher and educator. She works with clients to better understand the inter-related nature of socio-demographic change through research, data analysis, and interpretation of complex economic and social issues using a systems thinking lens.
Together with clients, Lisa helps identify and articulate challenges and opportunities using a systems thinking approach and then works with clients to develop informed strategic policy directions.
Dr Katherine Treback is a political economist, writer and advocate for economic system change. Her roles include writer-at-large and co-director of the Compassion in Financial Services Hub at the University of Edinburgh, Economic Change Lead at The Next Economy, and Strategic Advisor to the Centre for Policy Development. She co-founded the Wellbeing Economy Alliance (WEAll) and also WEAll Scotland, its Scottish hub.
Katy Cooper is passionate about helping organisations, communities and sectors to understand the future they can’t see yet. Katy works with organisations to develop programs to support systems change and strategy execution. Katy focusses on leading the design of collaborative, sustainable strategies that deliver our preferred futures. She is passionate about shaping strategies that support thriving sectors and drive collaboration to meet the opportunities of our potential futures through innovation.
Graeme Gardner is a Palawa man, descending from the Trawlwoolway people of North East Tasmania (Lutruwita). Graeme has a long-held passion for working to address critical issues affecting the Aboriginal community, particularly in relation to Aboriginal health and wellbeing, social justice and the recognition of our cultural identity. Graeme is supporting TasNetworks to engage and build relationships with the Tasmanian Aboriginal community and increase cultural understanding across the organisation. Prior to joining TasNetworks, Graeme was the Manager of the Aboriginal Land Council of Tasmania for 19 years and has undertaken a wide range of land management and stakeholder engagement activities that have directly resulted in positive, long-term outcomes for the Tasmanian Aboriginal community.
Jane Longhurst (Conference Facilitator) is an award-winning actor, broadcaster, voice artist and popular presenter of events big and small. She has worked extensively in theatre, television and radio since graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts. Her television credits include Bay of Fires, Deadloch, Rosehaven, Death or Liberty and Blue Heelers. Jane is well known and loved from her regular fill-in roles presenting for ABC Local Radio across Tasmania for the past 13 years. In that time she has presented all the programs on the local radio schedule, plus ABC Rural, ABC Classic and ABC Grandstand.
