The Tasmanian Government is establishing the Tasmanian Ministerial Multicultural Advisory Council as a reference point on issues affecting culturally and linguistically diverse Tasmanians. Expressions of interest are now open for five culturally and linguistically Tasmanians to join the Council.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics defines cultural and linguistic diversity as groups and individuals who differ according to religion, language and ethnicity and whose ancestry is other than Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, Anglo-Saxon or Anglo-Celtic.
Members will provide advice to inform Tasmanian Government responses to issues and challenges faced by culturally and linguistically diverse Tasmanians. This assists in the development and delivery of Tasmanian Government policy, programs and projects to ensure culturally and linguistically diverse Tasmanians are safe, can participate and feel they belong.
More information is available from Department of Premier and Cabinet – Ministerial Multicultural Advisory Council – EOI including the draft Terms of Reference, frequently asked questions and an Expression of Interest form.
