Expressions of interest are now open for the inaugural Child Advocate, a new role that will strengthen oversight of child safety and provide independent advocacy for children and young people, particularly those in out-of-home care and youth justice systems.
Tasmanians aged between 15-21 will help form a Youth Selection Panel, to help determine who the new Child Advocate will be. The Youth Selection Panel will work alongside a senior selection panel providing a unique opportunity for young Tasmanians to decide who will champion their rights, safety and wellbeing.
Further information on the Youth Selection Panel will become available over the coming weeks.
Applications for the Child Advocate position are open until Sunday 23 August 2026.
For more information on the position, including the eligibility criteria and how to apply, visit the Department of Justice website.
