We’re looking for participants who are now or who have previously experienced homelessness or extreme housing stress to perform on the day. All performance is welcome, whether it’s singing, playing an instrument, spoken word, poetry, rap, stand-up, improv or group performances.
This year’s, “Songs from the Street,” will take place on Thursday, 7 August, from 11:30am to 1:30 pm as part of Homelessness Week 2025 under the covered area in the Elizabeth Street Mall. “Songs from the Street” aims to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and raise funds for Health with Dignity, which helps Hobartians in extreme need access free GP appointments.
As in previous years an emerging talent will be recognised and every participant will receive a voucher to use at Modern Musician as a thank you for being part of the event.
The stand out performance, as chosen by a jury of expert judges and elected members will be offered a recording session at Frying Pan Studios at MONA.
Last year’s event was a fantastic success, and we’d love to see even more people involved this year. Please encourage your clients or community members to perform. If anyone is interested, or would like more information, please feel free to contact me directly by phone or email
This year we also warmly invite your organisation to attend the event with a stall to showcase the services and support you offer to community members in need. It’s a great opportunity to connect with others and share positive stories of the important work you do. We will provide the trestle table, chairs and table cloth.
