Important Update: Funding arrangements for community service organisations

As you may be aware, the passing of the 2025/26 Tasmanian State Budget has been delayed, with the likely possibility of a state election. This means organisations whose funding ends at EOFY (30 June 2025) and are reliant on funding contained in the recent Budget will need interim funding arrangements.

At this stage, the Department of Premier and Cabinet has advised us that Parliament will consider a supply bill that guarantees six (6) months of funding to departmental agencies. The expectation is that recurrent funding will be provided for six (6) months, which accounts for all operational/recurrent funding.

Any other special purpose funding, such as election announcements or one-off, new funding, will depend on the fixed-term nature of it, and will be under consideration.

The supply bill will need to pass through both the House of Assembly and Legislative Council, expected to occur on Tuesday 10 June 2025.

If you have any questions, we recommend you contact your relevant departmental agency contacts or funding manager(s). We’ll endeavor to provide more clarity as we are made aware, noting the situation is subject to change.

TasCOSS has relayed our concerns to the Government that a failure to provide interim funding will place jobs at risk and, most importantly, will result in Tasmanians missing out on essential services, and are in ongoing conversations with the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

If you have any questions or wish to seek clarification, please don’t hesitate to contact TasCOSS via email.
