Neighbourhood Houses Tasmania, Local Government Association of Tasmania and TasCOSS are working together as part of the Department of Premier and Cabinet’s Reform Implementation Project, relating to policy and other reform arising from the Commission of Inquiry into the Tasmanian Government’s Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in Institutional Settings.
As part of their reform agenda, the Tasmanian Government has developed a Change for Children draft Strategy and Action Plan to identify, respond to and prevent child sexual abuse in Tasmania.
TasCOSS and NHT are seeking feedback on the potential impact of the Change for Children draft Strategy and Action Plan, as well as ideas for how children and families can be supported to stay safe and well. We are hosting in-person events in north and north-west Tasmania to meet with organisations and speak about the following key areas:
- To hear from communities about local issues impacting community members and the organisations who work directly with children and families;
- To talk to community organisations about our proposed response to the draft Strategy and Action Plan and get feedback on our ideas and key recommendations;
- To discuss the Child and Youth Safe Organisational Framework (CYSOF) and discuss how TasCOSS and Neighbourhood Houses Tasmania can support local organisations with implementation and maintenance of related policies/procedures.
These conversations are open to all community members and organisations who are interested in these issues and will take place at the following dates/locations:
- Midway Point Neighbourhood House — 12:30-2:30pm, Monday 19 August 2024
- Launceston Library — 10am-12noon, Thursday 22 August 2024
- Burnie Child and Family Learning Centre — 10am-12noon, Wednesday 21 August 2024
