The ‘Tell Someone’ campaign works to prevent and address child sexual abuse by encouraging open conversations, raising awareness, and empowering people to act on their concerns. It provides clear information on how to recognise the signs of abuse and highlights the importance of reporting concerns to protect children.

The Tell Someone campaign, initially launched in late 2023, has been effective in raising awareness and increasing knowledge about child sexual abuse. The campaign focuses on equipping people with the tools to detect, respond to, and act on signs of abuse.

The campaign was relaunched with a wider reach, running across multiple advertising channels including television, social media, bus advertisements, gaming platforms, posters and information cards displayed in community spaces.

In 2025, the Department of Premier and Cabinet is joining forces with other government agencies and community organisations to expand the campaign’s impact. Local councils, sporting clubs, schools, public libraries, neighbourhood houses and other community organisations have been asked to take an active role by:

  • Sharing social media posts to amplify the message.
  • Displaying campaign posters and information cards in public spaces.
  • Distributing information to staff, volunteers and contractors internally.

The campaign aims to build a community where everyone feels confident and supported to “tell someone” if they see or suspect abuse. By breaking the silence, the campaign seeks to create a safer environment where the safety and well-being of Tasmanian children are the top priority.

The campaign aligns closely with the work of the Office of the Independent regulator and the Child and Youth Organisation Framework to create safe environments for children and young people. The framework emphasises the importance of robust child protection policies, staff and volunteer training and clear processes for reporting concerns. These measures are essential for adopting best practices and fostering a cultural shift toward safeguarding children and young people.

We are calling on individuals and organisations across Tasmania to get involved. By working together, communities can make sure that every child grows up in a safe and supportive environment.
