The 20 Year Preventive Health Strategy is about creating a better future for all Tasmanians now and future generations. Everyone deserves the opportunity to live a good life, whatever that means to them. To feel well, to do what they love, and to keep doing it for as long as possible.

Good health isn’t just about avoiding illness – it’s about how we live. Everyone deserves the opportunity to live a good life, whatever that means to them. To feel well, to do what they love, and to keep doing it for as long as possible.

But right now, most Tasmanians are statistically on track to experience preventable physical or mental illness at some point in their lives – because of the conditions around them. And over time, it’s started to feel normal – or just part of life. But it doesn’t have to be – and we can change it.

Prevention means more than just encouraging better choices – it’s about making sure people have a real choice to begin with. Where the healthy choice isn’t the hard one – it’s the easy one. The one that fits into real life. Because health doesn’t start in a clinic – it starts where life does. Things like our homes, relationships, early years, food, transport, income, and connection shape more than 70% of our health outcomes.
