TasCOSS Annual Report 2024/25: Treasurer’s Report

Delivered at the TasCOSS Annual General Meeting, Thursday 30 October 2025, Hobart.

Penny Egan, TasCOSS Board Treasurer

Good afternoon. It’s a privilege to stand before you today as Treasurer of the Tasmanian Council of Social Service, an organisation that continues to be a powerful voice for equity, inclusion and social justice in Tasmania.

Over the past year, TasCOSS has navigated a complex and evolving landscape, all while remaining steadfast in its purpose to amplify the voices of Tasmanians experiencing disadvantage. I’m proud to report that our financial position remains stable and resilient, thanks to prudent management, strong governance and the collective efforts of our dedicated team.

We’ve continued to invest in our strategic priorities, including industry capacity-building, advocacy and community engagement. Our funding streams have remained consistent and we’ve worked hard to ensure transparency and accountability in every dollar spent. I’d like to acknowledge the support of our funders and partners, whose trust in TasCOSS enables us to do this vital work.

TasCOSS ended the 2024/25 Financial Year with a surplus of $168,000, due principally to higher interest returns, increased income from projects and other sources, and a reduction in operational overheads associated with the allocation to program activities.

Cash is well managed with over $1.1 million in fixed-term deposits, in accordance with the TasCOSS Investment Policy, providing additional income to the organisation.

The Auditors Report for 2024/25 indicated no audit differences. The TasCOSS Board has endorsed management’s assessment that TasCOSS is a going concern and can provide assurance that the organisation is able to continue to operate for the next twelve months.

However, for TasCOSS — like our members and other organisations in this industry — the road ahead will continue to be challenging, and the ability to operate at the same level and capacity without increased funding and additional income streams will be difficult.

On behalf of the Finance and Audit Sub-Committee, I wish to thank Adrienne, her team and For Purpose Accounting for their work in the finance area and for the support given to the TasCOSS Board in 2024/25.

As I step down from this role, I would like to take the opportunity to thank Georgie and my fellow TasCOSS Board Directors for their thoughtful oversight and collaborative spirit. It’s been a pleasure working alongside such committed individuals, who bring diverse perspectives and a shared passion for social change.

TasCOSS is a great organisation and I have deep admiration for the work they undertake and look forward to watching from the sidelines to see its impact grow stronger in the years ahead.

Thank you.
