2026/27 Pre-Budget Consultation Process

TasCOSS today received official advice around the Tasmanian Government Pre-Budget Consultation Process for the 2026/27 Tasmanian Budget, set to be handed down in May 2026, which invites community input to help shape priorities in the face of growing service delivery costs and ongoing economic pressures.

revised single submission form has been introduced this year, which includes five guiding questions focussed on identifying efficiencies, potential savings and offsetting the cost of any new funding ideas.

While we acknowledge the Government’s intent to streamline the process and provide clarity, TasCOSS is concerned about the narrow framing of the submission form and the tight consultation timeline, with submissions due by Sunday 30 November 2025. We believe this timeframe will limit the capacity of many organisations, particularly smaller ones, to engage meaningfully in the process and consult with members and stakeholders around their proposals. This is particularly concerning given the interim 2025/26 Tasmanian Budget will not be handed down until Thursday 6 November 2025.

TasCOSS is actively seeking further information and clarity on these matters and has scheduled meetings with key stakeholders to raise these concerns directly.

For more information, please head to the Department of Treasury and Finance website.

We will keep you informed as this process unfolds and we hope to provide a further update early next week.
