The federal election is over and while counting continues in close run seats, the Labor Government has been returned with an increased majority. But the challenges many of our community face remain — inadequate incomes, a lack of affordable housing, rising energy costs, to name but few.
The Albanese Government’s decisive majority gives it the authority to progress bold, lasting reforms. It has the opportunity and responsibility to ensure its second term is used to deliver justice for people living on the lowest incomes.
The Prime Minister repeated on election night his promise to make sure no one is left behind. There is still much more to do to help people under pressure. We’ll continue our collective push to raise income support to adequate levels, tackle the housing crisis with real solutions, close the digital divide, progress meaningful tax reform, and advocate for greater investment in quality community services to help Tasmanians in need.
Congratulations to those Tasmanian candidates elected to serve in Canberra, namely returned MPs, Andrew Wilkie (Clark) and Julie Collins (Franklin), and new members Jess Teesdale (Bass), Anne Urquhart (Braddon) and Rebecca White (Lyons). The final Tasmanian seats in the Senate race remain in the balance, with counting ongoing.
We look forward to working with our federal representatives to better our communities.
