Carers Tasmania welcomes confirmation in the 2025/26 interim Tasmanian Budget of funding in 2025/26 to continue our work supporting and advocating on behalf of more than 87,000 Tasmanians who care for a family member or friend with disability, chronic or life-limiting health condition, mental ill health, drug or alcohol dependence, or who is frail aged, or who care for a child because their parents cannot. This funding will assist us to develop a refreshed version of the Tasmanian Carer Action Plan with Government.
While the additional funding to be provided in 2025/26 by the Government is very welcome, this is short-term funding only. Carers Tasmania desperately needs an ongoing funding increase to ensure Tasmanian carers are recognised and supported to undertake their important work in caring for the most vulnerable members of our communities.
