While outlining some additional investment in mental health, nearly all of what is detailed in the Budget relates specifically to clinical and acute services.
There is a lack of detail and transparency around the amount of uplift the Government plans to invest in community managed mental health services to meet demand. Mental Health Council of Tasmania are in the process of seeking clarification from the department to help provide members clarity, and ensure the ongoing viability of the community mental health services that so many Tasmanians rely upon.
There is welcome funding allocated to a number of promised walk-in centres across the state, but there is a lack of complimentary funding to address workforce capacity to support these initiatives.
