Carers Tasmania welcomes confirmation in the 2025/26 Tasmanian Budget of additional funding to be provided to continue our work supporting and advocating on behalf of more than 87,000 Tasmanians who care for a family member or friend with disability, chronic or life-limiting health condition, mental ill health, drug or alcohol dependence, or who is frail aged, or who care for a child because their parents cannot.
This funding will assist us to develop a refreshed version of the Carer Action Plan with the Tasmanian Government and celebrate Tasmanian carers during National Carers Week in October.
While the additional short-term funding provided by the Government is very welcome, Carers Tasmania desperately needs an ongoing funding increase to ensure Tasmanian carers are recognised and supported to undertake their important work in caring for the most vulnerable members of our communities.
