The Economic Media Centre works to grow the media capacity of people with lived expertise of economic inequality to influence policy debates and shift mainstream narratives. The Economic Centre offers training in practical media skills, including campaign messages and interviewing, and then pitching people to the media.
The current focus areas are key issues heading into a federal election cycle. These include:
- First Nations justice
- The cost of living and housing crises
- Fighting for a strong social safety net
- Health and disability
- Racial justice and pushing back on the far right
The Economic Media Centre believes in transformative change and understands how important narratives are to building the foundations for that change. As the media landscape fragments, lies and deliberate misinformation spread, and algorithms and outrage drive clicks, they recognise the critical importance of getting more people with lived expertise and sharp analysis into the media.
