TasCOSS MEDIA RELEASE: TasCOSS Conference 2021 to showcase diverse voices of change

More than 135 leaders, industry experts, practitioners and supporters of the community services industry from across Tasmania will gather at Blundstone Arena Function Centre, Bellerive over the next two days to witness an engaging and thought-provoking line-up of speakers at the TasCOSS Conference.

Writer, speaker and appearance activist, Carly Findlay OAM and futurist and business advisor, Bernard Salt AM headline the jam-packed conference program (PDF, 4.70MB).

TasCOSS CEO Ms Adrienne Picone said the TasCOSS Conference would take a look at the past 18 months which saw the community services industry flexibly adapt to support those Tasmanians most impacted by COVID-19 in our local communities.

“Bernard Salt will share some pearls of wisdom on how Tasmania’s community services might thrive into the future given the varied challenges we currently face,” said Ms Picone.

“Smashed avocados aside, Bernard has a lot to offer with respect to how we can build better support systems and support our communities post-COVID-19.

“Carly Findlay is a great example of a what a strong, influential voice for change looks like and her calls to improve accessibility for those living with disabilities is having a profound impact on the ground. We’re looking forward to Carly sharing her experiences and hearing about her approach to advocacy.”

Ms Picone said the program also features a number of engaging panel events, including a lived experience panel and an industry-focussed panel featuring Professor Rufus Black, Vice-Chancellor, at the University of Tasmania, Bruce Levett, CEO of Health Consumers Tasmania, Michael Bailey, CEO of the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Rebecca Ellston, Executive Director for Tasmania at the Property Council of Australia.”The community services industry is integral to Tasmania’s social and economic recovery from COVID-19 and this conference is an important opportunity for us to come together, reflect and explore how we as an industry can best support our communities to thrive into the future,” she said.
