Local Government Act Review

TasCOSS CEO Kym Goodes has worked as part of the Project Reference Group to review the legislative framework within which local government operates.

The Group has considered the issues and feedback raised in the initial public consultation and examined how the legislative framework should operate. Through these discussions, TasCOSS was able to provide the community sector’s perspective on a range of topics including community engagement and participation, governance and transparency, elections, council reporting and administration.

The Reference Group provided its advice on some key areas for reform to the Steering Committee, which has made recommendations to the Minister for Local Government, Hon Mark Shelton MP.
