- Engagement in Education Telco
8 June 2017
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
We want your input.
One of the core aims of the proposed new Education Act in Tasmania is for vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people in Tasmania to have increased access to education.
TasCOSS is working with the Department of Education to ensure that the voices of people experiencing disadvantage are heard when decisions are made around the new Act, and guide its implementation.
The first phase of this project, to be conducted with four school communities in early May, will focus on the pre-school and early years’ cohort, while the latter phase will look at middle- and upper-level schooling.
We are particularly keen to explore some of the barriers and facilitators that families experience in engaging in education and will be undertaking a series of consultations with families, service providers and school communities.
Educational research and data collection tends to focus on the who, what, where and when of disengagement. We want to know why some families are disengaged, while others experiencing similar levels of disadvantage are not. Some of these answers may lie in the particular circumstances of families, in factors associated with their schools, or in the capacity of their communities to provide supportive environments.
As a TasCOSS Member, you are likely well-placed to talk with us about educational engagement, children, and communities.
Anything you tell us will be kept completely confidential. We will not share information with anyone else in a way that identifies you or your clients.
Please register for this one-hour teleconference and share your insights with us as part of this important project.
We look forward to your contributions.
