“Sometimes the most important conversations are the most difficult to engage in.” — Jeanne Phillips

There are certain conversations none of us like to have, where you have to deliver bad news, raise a sensitive issue or talk about something that is not working well.

If difficult conversations are handled badly they can lead to conflict. On the flip side, if handled well, a difficult conversation can resolve issues and build confidence.

Working in the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) sector the first level of aged care support can often require difficult conversations. They might be with your consumer, their family, your colleagues, volunteers or your manager. This workshop will provide you with skills and strategies to have and manage difficult conversations.

Join us for this practical workshop which will cover:

  • The importance of communication,
  • Strategies for navigating difficult conversations,
  • How to handle emotions in difficult conversations for both you and the person you’re speaking to, including de-escalation and defusion techniques; and
  • Resources, practice examples and information that you can take back to your team.

These workshops are designed for employees who work for and with CHSP funded services and organisations. The aim of the workshops is to support CHSP providers access online training on knowledge and skills required when engaging in difficult conversations, and to strengthen their Wellness and Reablement practice.

The workshops will be held over two weeks (2 x 90-minute online sessions). You will need to commit to attend both workshops as well as complete the set workbook activity. Please register for Option A or Option B depending on your availability. If you are new to online learning, we will support you.

You can join the group remotely using Zoom Video Conferencing. Details on how to join the Zoom Video Conferencing session will be distributed closer to the date. Please refer to the guide on how to join and participate in a TasCOSS training session online using Zoom for more information.
