Expressions of Interest: TasCOSS Board President

The TasCOSS Board is seeking expressions of interest (EOIs) from suitably qualified people to fill the role of Board President after the TasCOSS Annual General Meeting (AGM) in October 2023. You can view the full Position Description and Selection Criteria below.

The TasCOSS Board President has the responsibility of chairing TasCOSS Board meetings and leading the affairs of the board. The President also has an important role in representing TasCOSS publicly, for example at member events and stakeholder meetings, and will be required to work closely with the CEO to drive TasCOSS’s Vision and Mission, as well as progress the aims set out in the Strategic Plan (2021-26)

The successful candidate will shadow the current Board President, Alexander McKenzie, for a period of up to five (5) months before the AGM.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The TasCOSS Board President chairs TasCOSS Board meetings and leads the affairs of the board. The President is accountable to the TasCOSS Board for the performance of their role. The President also has an important role in representing the TasCOSS Board in its accountability to members including at, and between, member and stakeholder meetings, and cooperating with the CEO and representing the public face of the organisation to its broader stakeholders and the community.

The time required for the role is on average 4-5 hours per week. 

SELECTION CRITERIA:
  1. Corporate governance: Highly developed and demonstrated ability to facilitate governance processes and ensure regulatory compliance. 
  2. Relationship building: Exceptional skills at building and maintaining stakeholder relationships, including community service organisations, governments, and the CEO and TasCOSS Board Directors. 
  3. Advocacy: Demonstrated ability to act as an effective advocate on behalf of, and represent TasCOSS to, the public, the media, decision-makers and other stakeholders. 
  4. Time management: Demonstrated willingness and capacity to deliver the expected time commitment required by the role for preparing for, and participating in, TasCOSS Board meetings, TasCOSS Board committee meetings and TasCOSS Board/Director/CEO evaluations. 
  5. Conflict resolution: Highly developed capacity to navigate and resolve complex relationships and competing interests.  
  6. Collaborative leadership: Exceptional skills in facilitating contributions from all TasCOSS Board members and senior executive to fulfil the strategies, Vision and Mission of TasCOSS. 
  7. Commitment to social justice principles and outcomes: Demonstrated commitment to human rights principles and policies, and ending poverty and social exclusion.
