Public consultation is now open on a Bill to establish a new framework aimed at improving the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in institutional settings.

The Child and Youth Safe Organisations Framework will require organisations that work with children and young people to take specific steps to keep them safe and respond effectively where incidents of harm do occur.

A wide range of organisations that work with children and young people — including justice and detention services for children, child care, education services for children, and government agencies — will have to comply with the framework, which is based on the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

The Tasmanian Government welcomes feedback on the Child and Youth Safe Organisations Bill 2022 by 5pm Saturday October 1.
