26TEN week will focus on families reading, writing and counting together. It’s a vital part of lifting literacy and numeracy in Tasmania. Join us to raise the awareness with those who might need literacy and numeracy help!
If you would like to help you can:
- badge one of your normal family events as a 26TEN event (a time for families to have some fun with reading, writing and counting together)
- organise a new event which you can badge as a 26TEN event
- talk to adults you know about how important it will be for them to get help so they can give their kids the best start.
26TEN has free packs to support your activity. These packs include:
- information sheet with ideas for activities
- bunting – 3 metres
- tattoos – temporary
- rulers and book marks
- family literacy poster.
To order your pack and be a part of this important event please email 26TEN with the name and date of your event and address for mailing the pack. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact the 26TEN team.
Why family literacy matters
Parents and carers are a child’s most important educator in the early years, they help language development by talking, singing, rhyming and reading with their children, from birth. Improving the literacy of parents and carers is a key component of achieving better outcomes in the early years. Your help during 26TEN Week to start chatting with parents and carers about family literacy will be invaluable.
