New Mental Health Literacy Study

Beng Poh

Mental health conditions are common, with one in five Australians experiencing a mental health condition in any one year. Few Australians access the available services and treatments that could help them with their mental health. Are Australians failing to recognise mental health symptoms? Or are they unable or unwilling to access appropriate services?

The Royal Flying Doctor Service with their research partners at the Australian Catholic University (ACU) are conducting a study about Mental Health Literacy in Australia. This research will assist in understanding how much Australians know about mental health conditions and provide insight into what needs to be done to improve services for people who live in all areas of Australia, including major cities, inner and outer regional areas, and remote and very remote areas.
