The City of Hobart (COH) grants program supports community-driven activities that make a real difference for people and communities. COH grants can help bring your idea or project to fruition. Through cash and resource grants COH invest in activities that enhance community and culture and shape the social and economic life of the city.

COH seek to award a mix of grants that meet the diverse needs of the community and business in Hobart. COH fund activities that represent excellent value for the level of cash support requested and do not duplicate existing services or grants provided by other organisations. This round offers six diverse grants:

  1. Community Grant (up to $5,000)
    Supports community groups and not-for-profit organisations to present activities that involve, engage and benefit the Hobart community.

  • Creative Hobart Small (up to $5,000)
    Provides support to smaller artist led creative activities, projects, and events in the Hobart local government area that align with the City’s Strategic Plan and Creative Hobart Strategy.

  • Creative Hobart Medium ($5,000 to $15,000)
    Provides support to smaller artist led creative activities, projects, and events in the Hobart local government area that align with the City’s Strategic Plan and Creative Hobart Strategy. Individuals and unincorporated groups must be auspiced by a not-for-profit organisation to be eligible for this grant.

  • NEW Local Business for a Better Community Grant (up to $5,000)
    Provides support for small business in Hobart to enhance their offering to the Hobart community and build a new loyal Hobart customer base.

  • NEW Heritage Grant (up to $10,000)
    The heritage grant is available to fund future heritage projects with priority given to physical conservation works to heritage-listed places. This grant is offered once every two years.

The new City of Hobart Grants Program Overview should be read in conjunction with each grant guideline and is a good place to start before beginning your application. The overview document has information to help you prepare your application, including examples of support material, what costs the grants can cover and much more.

The top five grants are accepting submissions at the same time for the same period of activity:

  • Applications close at 5pm on Monday 6 September 2021
  • Activity starts no earlier than 1 January 2022
  • These grants are offered again in February 2022 for activity starting after 1 July 2022

The key dates for the Heritage Grant is as follows:

  • Applications close at 5pm on Monday 18 October 2021
  • Activity starts no earlier than 1 February 2022
  • This grant is offered once every two years.

If you are interested in these grants, you are encouraged to speak to COH before applying to gain tips for a successful application. COH have made this easy by publishing meeting times and dates via Eventbrite. Each meeting is for up to one hour on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the period applications are open.
