Council on the Ageing (COTA) Tasmania
Thanks so much for participating in Seniors Week 2020. As you know; for a while earlier in the year it looked like it wasn’t going to happen.
But thanks to a responsible government and community, the COVID-19 threat was minimised and we were able to go ahead with the 22nd consecutive Seniors Week — the 10th organised by COTA Tasmania.
The total number of events was down by about a third this year, due principally to previous organisers being unable to commit following COVID-19 induced shutdowns. The good news is that most indicated they would be back in 2021.
In our travels during Seniors Week we were pleased to see quite good numbers at most events and many smiling faces. However, we are aware that some events attracted little or no participants. This of course is very disappointing for those who made the effort to arrange an event. It told us that many older Tasmanians were still not ready to get as socially active as they once might have been.
I unfortunately have to report very poor participation in the official patron survey process. We have received a very small number of returned surveys from organisers. We’d be very pleased to know why so that we could address and fix it in future! The intel gathered from patrons is critical to our official reporting and for future planning.
Please encourage or advise any of your event patrons to complete the survey online. We can send them a hardcopy if they prefer that format.
Survey closes Friday 20 November 2020.
