The Chris Crerar Reconciliation Scholarship is available to a Tasmanian Aboriginal student commencing a Bachelor degree for the first time, in any discipline, at the University of Tasmania from Semester 1, 2025. Applications close 31 October.

The Chris Crerar Reconciliation Scholarship has been established by Reconciliation Tasmania to help financially support a Tasmanian Aboriginal student to undertake an undergraduate degree at the University of Tasmania.

The $5000 a year scholarship ($25,000 over five years) aims to provide financial support for the duration of the undergraduate degree, and to offer the successful applicant opportunities to connect with Reconciliation Tasmania.

The scholarship has been named in honour and recognition of Chris Crerar’s contribution to the Tasmanian community throughout his life.

Chris Crerar was a well-respected journalist and advocate for social justice, with a particular commitment to Tasmanian Aboriginal people.  Before he passed away in 2024, he had worked tirelessly as a dedicated employee of Reconciliation Tasmania, to promote truth-telling, community engagement, encouraging dialogue and fostering greater understanding of First Nations issues throughout the state.

Chris, a University of Tasmania alumnus, was also an accomplished photographer, photojournalist, and storyteller, who captured our shared humanity, and his work touched the lives of many.

His legacy lives on through the Tasmanian community, and through his family, friends and colleagues who also generously contribute to this scholarship in his name.
