Tasplan International Women’s Day Awards for Excellence 2020

Congratulations to Sue Leitch and Amanda French who were recognised as inspirational and aspiring leaders in our industry at the International Women’s Day awards luncheon on Friday 6 March 2020.

The community services industry is the fastest growing industry in our state and employs more than 10,000 Tasmanians. The Tasplan Awards for Excellence provided a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and pay tribute to women working in our industry who in breaking barriers through their work or personal life develop unique abilities to source trusted advisers and to act as mentors to others.

A special mention to the outstanding finalists across the community sector categories:

Community Sector: Inspirational Leader Award
Sue Leitch, 
Chief Executive Officer, Council on the Aging (COTA) Tasmania

As Chief Executive Officer, Sue has effectively promoted positive aging across everything COTA does. She has had a major impact on public policy by influencing the thinking of decision-makers in the aging sector and government at all levels.

Sue has a genuine passion for social justice and empowering older Tasmanians. Under her leadership aging is moving from a period envisaged as one of care and dependency to one where older Tasmanians can feel good about their very positive contributions to society and about their own aging. By calling out ageism and challenging stereotypes Sue has directly furthered the cause of older women.

Community Sector: Aspiring Leader Award
Amanda French, General Manager, Dress for Success Hobart (DFSH)

Amanda has been the key driver behind the establishment and growth of DFSH. DFSH is an affiliate of Dress for Success Worldwide — a global not-for-profit organisation that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the tools to help women thrive.

One of Amanda’s key interests is addressing unemployment within Tasmania and empowering women to achieve their goals. DFSH offers a proven model to assist socially disadvantaged and vulnerable women reengage in the workforce.
