Access Support for your Energy Costs

With the end of June fast approaching, it is a timely reminder to households that electricity disconnections can recommence as a further tranche of COVID-19 protections are removed.

While retailers will once again be able to issue and enforce disconnection notices for non-payment, they also offer a range of support options for customers who need help paying their energy bills. This includes payment extensions, payment plans, direct financial assistance and support programs for customers experiencing financial hardship. To access these supports, you must make contact with your retailer.

If the thought of talking to your retailer makes you feel anxious or stressed, a financial counsellor or other authorised representative can contact them on your behalf. Anglicare offers a free financial counselling service across Tasmania or you can call the National Debt Helpline on 1800 007 007 for advice.

Customers needing assistance to pay their Aurora Energy bills can call the YES team on 1300 10 2010 or get further information on Aurora’s website.

Information on support available from 1st Energy is available by calling 1300 426 594 or on 1st Energy’s website.

Uniting is offering free advisory services to Tasmanian customers on energy use, energy efficiency and assistance with energy bills. See Uniting’s flyer or call 1800 545 366 for more information.

TasNetworks also offers a free over-the-phone, energy consultation with energy advisors who can help you understand your energy bill and provide advice on simple changes you can make at home to save power and lower your electricity bill.
