Food Security

Many Tasmanians do not eat healthily, with fresh fruit and vegetables particularly under-represented in daily meals. Rising food prices and lack of access to fresh, high-quality food due to limited selection in shops, lack of fresh food shops and lack of transport limit the food options of many Tasmanians. TasCOSS advocates for measures that will boost the food security of low-income and disadvantaged Tasmanians, whether through local campaigns promoting home-grown food and healthy eating or measures to encourage local food production.

Facts and figures

  • 92% of Tasmanians consume inadequate amounts of fruit or vegetables
