Energy & Water

Rising prices of household utilities, particularly energy and water, have greatly increased the cost of living for low income and disadvantaged Tasmanians in recent years. TasCOSS continues to advocate for a reliable, safe and affordable supply of electricity as a right rather than a privilege. We also continue to lobby for the provision of residential energy and water efficiency advice and assistance to households in need, and for equality of access for tenants and homeowners to concessions related to both energy and water.

Facts and figures

Tasmania’s electricity price has increased by 108.69% since 1995, including a 10.56 per cent increase in July 2012.
